Parliament returns today after Speaker’s recall

Parliament will today, Monday, August 24, reconvene for a special sitting following a recall by Speaker Alban Bagbin.

The recall comes less than a month after the House adjourned on July 31, with MPs expected to return to the Chamber to deal with what the Speaker considers urgent parliamentary business.

Mr Bagbin invoked Order 58(4) of Parliament’s Standing Orders, which gives the Speaker the authority to recall the House during an adjournment when circumstances require Parliament to resume.

The special sitting is expected to run from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28.

MPs are expected to deliberate on pressing matters deemed too urgent to wait until Parliament’s next scheduled sitting.
