Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his desire for the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, to remain in office for as long as possible, describing him as an irreplaceable figure whose experience continues to strengthen the party.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, Gbande said Asiedu Nketiah, widely known as “General Mosquito”, remains the “spirit” of the NDC and is one of the party’s most experienced leaders after decades of dedicated service.
According to him, the National Chairman’s extensive knowledge of the party’s structures and his leadership have played a crucial role in shaping the NDC, with many current members benefiting from his mentorship over the years.
“General Mosquito is the spirit of our party today. Whether you like him or not, I would have loved to have the experience of him managing the party for a little bit longer. He’s currently the National Chairman of the party,” Gbande said.
“You have no reason to question his leadership. He is probably the most experienced individual in the party today. He’s been there for a long time. All of us who are walking around, we’ve walked through his hands.”
Gbande also urged party members to avoid publicly attacking Asiedu Nketiah over disagreements, stressing that differences of opinion should be resolved through the NDC’s internal structures rather than through public criticism.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions within the party over its future leadership and internal direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.
