The Ministry of Health has announced plans to investigate issues raised in an investigative report by The Fourth Estate concerning the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital.
In a press release, the Ministry said it had taken note of the report, which has been widely circulated on social media and has sparked public concern over the quality of care at the facility.
The Ministry expressed sympathy for patients and families who may have suffered poor treatment at health facilities across the country.
“The Ministry sympathises with patients and relatives who may have been subjected to any form of unprofessional conduct in any health facility nationwide,” the statement said.
It reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving access to healthcare and easing the stress and financial burden faced by patients seeking medical attention.
However, the Ministry noted that it was deeply concerned by some of the findings highlighted in the report, describing them as troubling and unexpected.
“We are deeply concerned and surprised by some of the revelations contained in the report. The issues raised are serious and require thorough examination,” the statement indicated.
In response, the Ministry disclosed that it is in the process of setting up an investigative committee to probe the allegations made in the report.
According to the statement, the committee will be given a clear mandate and timeline, with instructions to submit its findings within fourteen (14) working days.
The Ministry also called on all relevant stakeholders to cooperate fully with the investigation to ensure accountability and strengthen healthcare delivery in the country.
It specifically urged The Fourth Estate and other involved parties to provide any additional information that may assist the committee in establishing the facts and improving service delivery within the health system.
