Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena has been confirmed as the successor to the Kantanka Empire following the official reading of the will of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka at the Accra High Court.
The development, which took place on Monday, July 6, has brought clarity to the leadership transition of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the wider Kantanka Empire after weeks of public discussions surrounding the succession process.
Speaking to journalists after the court proceedings, Kristo Asafo Mission member Richard Brown, popularly known as Osebo the Zaraman, pledged his support for Akofena and the family, stating that he would respect the final wishes of the late Apostle.
“If our father decided to leave all his properties to Akofena, I have no reason to object. I have always said that he valued peace. If his will clearly states that everything belongs to Akofena, then I have no choice but to respect that decision,” he said.
The confirmation follows earlier comments by former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo, who insisted that her late father left behind a valid will to guide the management of his estate and the affairs of the mission.
According to her, public discussions had created the impression that the disagreements within the Kristo Asafo Mission were centred on inheritance and ownership of properties. She maintained, however, that the main issue was the implementation of Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s final instructions as captured in his will.
The succession process has been accompanied by tensions within the family and the mission, including a shooting incident at Akofena’s residence.
The incident reportedly left Sarah Adwoa Safo in critical condition, with plans being made by the family to seek further medical treatment abroad.
