Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says the ECOWAS Council of Ministers has thrown its support behind Ghana’s petition to the African Union (AU) calling for stronger action against xenophobia across the continent.
The regional body also endorsed the Accra Next Steps Commitments on Reparatory Justice during meetings held in Sierra Leone ahead of the ECOWAS Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, July 19, Mr. Ablakwa welcomed the decision, describing it as a significant endorsement of Ghana’s efforts to promote unity, tolerance and justice in Africa.
“I commend the ECOWAS Council of Ministers for declaring full support for Ghana’s petition to the African Union against xenophobia and for their unconditional endorsement of the Accra Next Steps Commitments on Reparatory Justice,” he wrote.
He noted that the decision reflects growing regional backing for initiatives aimed at safeguarding the rights and dignity of Africans while strengthening continental solidarity.
The minister reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to championing policies that foster unity and peaceful coexistence across Africa.
“We shall keep working tirelessly towards the attainment of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s dream of a united, tolerant and prosperous Africa,” he added.
Mr. Ablakwa is part of Ghana’s delegation attending the ECOWAS Council of Ministers meeting in Sierra Leone, where ministers are preparing for the summit of Heads of State and Government. The gathering is expected to focus on key political, economic and security issues confronting the West African sub-region.
