A private citizen, Emmanuel Senyo Amekplenu, is calling on the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to speed up its investigations into allegations of conflict of interest involving former President John Dramani Mahama, linked to Engineers & Planners’ involvement in the Damang Mine takeover.
Mr. Amekplenu has filed a petition raising concerns over possible conflict of interest, abuse of executive influence, and the alleged use of public office for private or family benefit. He argues that these claims, if proven, would contravene Article 284 of the 1992 Constitution.
Speaking to Citi News on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, he confirmed that CHRAJ has acknowledged receipt of the petition and has already begun preliminary investigations. However, he is urging the Commission to complete its work within a reasonable time to ensure public confidence in the process.
According to him, the matter is still under review.
“I checked and saw that the case is still being considered. I do not want to impose timelines on CHRAJ, but the public is watching, and it is important that the Commission concludes its work promptly to promote transparency and accountability,” he said.
Mr. Amekplenu further appealed to Parliament to suspend any approval or ratification processes connected to the matter until CHRAJ finishes its investigations.
“If anything goes wrong, Parliament will be held accountable by the citizens. They must act as proper watchdogs to protect the nation’s assets,” he added.
