FC Barcelona were crowned La Liga champions for the 29th time after defeating fierce rivals Real Madrid CF 2-0 in a decisive El Clasico showdown at Camp Nou on Sunday night.
The victory handed Hansi Flick’s side the league title with three matches still to play and marked the first time in the club’s history that Barcelona have sealed the championship by beating Real Madrid in an El Clasico encounter.
Barcelona wasted little time asserting their dominance.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick after Ferran Torres had been brought down just outside the penalty area. The England forward curled his effort beyond Thibaut Courtois to ignite celebrations inside Camp Nou and give the hosts an early advantage.
Moments later, Barcelona struck again with a slick attacking move that exposed Madrid’s defensive struggles. Dani Olmo produced a clever backheel pass into the path of Torres, who calmly finished past Courtois to double the lead before the midway point of the first half.

The visitors arrived in Catalonia amid reports of tension inside the dressing room following a difficult week. Federico Valverde missed the match after reportedly suffering a head injury during a training-ground incident involving Aurelien Tchouameni, while questions continue to grow around the atmosphere within the squad.
On the field, Madrid struggled to create meaningful chances. Young forward Gonzalo Garcia missed a clear opportunity in the first half, while Jude Bellingham endured a frustrating evening that reflected the club’s disappointing campaign. The midfielder also had a goal ruled out for offside after earlier suffering a bloody lip in a collision with Eric Garcia.
New signing Trent Alexander-Arnold attempted to spark Madrid into life but found little space against Barcelona’s relentless pressing, eventually becoming involved in a heated exchange with Raphinha late in the game as frustrations boiled over.
For Barcelona, the triumph caps an outstanding domestic campaign under Flick. Since losing the reverse Clasico earlier in the season, the Catalans have gone on a remarkable run, winning 23 of their last 25 league matches to establish a commanding lead at the top of the table.
The title also highlights the success of Barcelona’s rebuilding project, centred around a talented young core led by rising star Lamine Yamal, who missed the match through injury but has played a major role in the club’s success this season.
While Barcelona celebrated another historic achievement, Madrid were left facing serious questions about the future. The club is now on course to finish a second straight season without a major trophy, increasing pressure on manager Alvaro Arbeloa as speculation continues to grow over a possible return for Jose Mourinho.
