Ghana Government Approves 10% Salary Increase for Public Sector Workers
The Government of Ghana has officially approved a 10% increase in base pay for public sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), effective January 1, 2025. This decision follows negotiations between the government and organized labor, aimed at easing the financial burden on workers amid the rising cost of living.
The salary adjustment was agreed upon during the 2025 Public Sector Wage Negotiations, where labor unions advocated for improved remuneration to match inflationary pressures. The government, recognizing the economic challenges faced by workers, reached a consensus with labor leaders to implement the 10% increment as part of efforts to enhance employee welfare.
In a related development, the National Tripartite Committee (NTC) has also approved a 10% increase in the National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW), which will rise from GH¢18.18 to GH¢19.97, effective March 1, 2025. This adjustment applies to all businesses, institutions, and organizations in Ghana, ensuring that no worker earns below the new wage threshold.
Government officials have assured public sector employees of continued efforts to improve their working conditions, while labor unions have acknowledged the increment as a positive step, though they maintain that more needs to be done to align wages with the rising cost of living.
The 10% salary increase and minimum wage adjustment form part of the government’s broader strategy to balance economic stability with the welfare of workers, as the country navigates inflationary trends and economic recovery.
