The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reversed its earlier decision to allow the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, to contest the Juaben Constituency chairmanship election.
The party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC), in a directive issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, ordered Mr Abdulai to step aside from the race pending a police investigation into allegations against him.
According to the party, the decision is intended to allow the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to conduct its investigations without interference.
In a statement issued on the same day, the NDC said the decision was taken in the interest of transparency and accountability.
The party, however, stressed that the directive should not be interpreted as a judgment on the merits of the allegations against Mr Abdulai.
It further maintained that he remains entitled to the presumption of innocence while investigations continue.
