No Staff Will Lose Jobs Over Floods – Sam George Assures Digital Centre Workers

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has assured workers of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) that the June 29 floods will not result in job losses.

The Minister gave the assurance on Monday, July 13, 2026, when he met the Board, management and staff of GDCL following the disruption caused by flooding at the Accra Digital Centre.

His comments come after the Ministry intervened to reverse a decision by GDCL management to suspend the employment contracts of all staff in the aftermath of the floods. The Ministry described the move as unacceptable and directed that the suspension be immediately withdrawn.

Addressing employees, Mr. George sought to calm concerns over job security, assuring them that the government remained committed to protecting their livelihoods.

“We are not laying off any staff of GDCL, whether temporarily or permanently, because of the flood. Every one of you is assured of the continuity of your jobs.”

However, the Minister said the flood incident should serve as an opportunity to reposition GDCL into a more efficient and financially sustainable state institution.

He urged staff and management to see the crisis as a chance to rebuild and transform the Centre rather than simply return to previous operations.

“Let’s take this as the reset of the reset. Every staff member will have to play their role because it’s not going to be business as usual.”

Mr. George said the government would continue supporting recovery efforts while focusing on improving corporate governance, operational efficiency and the long-term sustainability of the company.

He stressed that GDCL had the resources and infrastructure needed to become a profitable state enterprise and warned that management would be expected to deliver results.

“With the assets you hold, there is no excuse for GDCL not to be profitable… It will not fail, not under my watch.”

The Accra Digital Centre serves as a hub for technology companies, start-ups and innovation-driven businesses. Although the June floods disrupted activities at the facility, recovery efforts are ongoing as authorities work to restore operations and rebuild confidence among tenants, investors and stakeholders in Ghana’s digital ecosystem.
