Foreign Affairs Ministry Debunks Fake Cambodia Deportation Notice

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has moved to calm fears among Ghanaians following the circulation of a fake notice claiming that African nationals living in Cambodia had been ordered to leave the country before the end of May.

The viral document, which spread rapidly on social media, alleged that citizens from Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda and several other African countries would face arrest, imprisonment and financial penalties if they failed to exit Cambodia by May 31, 2026.

But Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry says the document is false and has no connection to the Cambodian government.

In a statement released on Friday, the Ministry said checks conducted through diplomatic channels confirmed that no such directive had been issued by Cambodian authorities.

“The said notice is absolutely fake and was not issued by any state institution in Cambodia,” the Ministry stated.

Authorities further referenced a clarification released by Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior, which described the circulating document as “completely untrue.”

The Ministry urged the public and media outlets to avoid spreading unverified reports capable of causing panic among Ghanaians living abroad and their families back home.

While dismissing the deportation claims, the government disclosed that some Ghanaians in Cambodia had independently requested assistance to return home.

According to the statement, Ghana’s High Commission in Malaysia, which oversees diplomatic relations with Cambodia, has already coordinated the evacuation of 85 Ghanaians between March and May this year.

Government says plans are also underway to facilitate the return of an additional 76 nationals who have expressed willingness to come back to Ghana.

“The Ministry will continue to work in close collaboration with all relevant authorities to ensure the safety, welfare and protection of Ghanaian nationals in Cambodia,” the statement added.

Officials also commended the Cambodian government for its cooperation throughout the ongoing repatriation efforts and reiterated Ghana’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad.
