Black Stars to Get New Coach by Monday – Sports Minister

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated that the country is on the verge of appointing a new head coach for the Black Stars, with an official announcement expected no later than Monday, April 13, 2026.

According to the minister, discussions with shortlisted candidates are at an advanced stage, with only a few final engagements left before a decision is reached. Speaking on Channel One TV, he expressed confidence that the process is nearing its conclusion.

“Hopefully, if by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, latest by Monday, we should be able to do so. We’ve come very far, and there are just a few more people to engage,” he said.

The search for a new coach follows the exit of Otto Addo, which has left the national team without a permanent technical leader at a crucial time.

Several experienced international managers have been linked to the role, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos.

Ghana faces a demanding task ahead, having been drawn into a tough group alongside Panama, Croatia, and England for the upcoming World Cup in North America.

Once appointed, the new coach is expected to quickly get to work, with an opportunity to assess the squad during international friendlies scheduled for May against Wales and Mexico. These matches will provide a vital platform to evaluate players and begin shaping the team ahead of the tournament.
