Wontumi Multimedia Shut Down by NCA Over Licence Breaches.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has ordered the suspension of Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited’s radio operations in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi for flouting broadcasting regulations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the regulator said the decision comes after the expiration of a 30-day grace period announced by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting FM stations to correct violations of the Electronic Communications Regulations.

The NCA noted that while most non-compliant stations took the opportunity to resolve their issues, three, including Wontumi Multimedia, failed to do so. The breaches cited include the unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter sites.

According to the authority, these stations were operating without a valid Certificate of Compliance, in direct violation of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011, L.I. 1991.

With immediate effect, Wontumi Multimedia’s frequencies in all three cities have gone off air. The NCA stated that operations will only resume once all regulatory requirements are met.
