The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate issued a press release warning the entire university community about a concerning resurgence of COVID-19 cases. According to the release, several suspected and confirmed cases have recently been identified within the university’s immediate environment, prompting urgent precautionary measures.
The Health Services Directorate emphasized that the resurgence, though currently limited, poses a serious risk if immediate steps are not taken to curb potential community spread. The Directorate strongly advised all staff, students, and visitors to remain highly vigilant and strictly comply with recommended safety protocols.
Among the key preventive measures highlighted were frequent handwashing with soap under running water and the regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. The press release also stressed the importance of maintaining physical distancing of at least one metre wherever possible, and avoiding large gatherings unless necessary.
The Health Services Directorate further urged the university community to ensure proper ventilation in shared spaces such as lecture halls, offices, and meeting rooms. Additionally, individuals who develop flu-like symptoms, including cough, fever, sore throat, or body aches, are advised to stay at home and seek prompt medical attention.
The Directorate assured the community that it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide timely updates as they become available. It also called for cooperation from everyone on campus to protect the health and safety of the university environment.
This press release serves as a timely reminder that COVID-19 remains a public health threat despite past progress in controlling the virus. The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate emphasized that collective responsibility and strict adherence to safety guidelines are the most effective tools to prevent another widespread outbreak.
For further information or to report any symptoms, members of the university community are encouraged to contact the University Health Services.
Let us work together to keep ourselves and our campus safe.
