Tamale Central By-Election Slated for September 30.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that a by-election will be conducted in the Tamale Central Constituency on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, to fill the vacant parliamentary seat left by the late Murtala Muhammed Ibrahim.

In a press release, the Commission explained that the vacancy falls under Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires a new representative to be elected when a seat in Parliament becomes vacant.

Nomination forms are available for download on the Commission’s official website from August 19 until September 10, 2025. The EC said completed forms must be submitted at its Tamale Metropolitan Office between September 8 and 10, during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Candidates are required to have their forms endorsed by a proposer and seconder, with the backing of 18 other registered voters in the constituency. Submissions must be made in four copies and accompanied by two recent bust-sized photographs with a red background.

The filing fee has been set at GHC10,000, though female aspirants and persons with disabilities will pay a reduced fee of GHC7,500.

Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, who signed the release, urged the public and all stakeholders to take note of the arrangements as the Commission begins the process of electing a new Member of Parliament for Tamale Central.
