Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, warning that Ghana’s World Cup qualification hopes remain uncertain.
Ghana’s recent results have done little to inspire confidence. The team was held to a 1-1 draw by Chad on Friday, September 5, before narrowly defeating Mali 1-0 three days later in Accra.
Despite the victory, Mr. Adams argued that the Black Stars’ play showed a lack of conviction and consistency, insisting that there is little evidence of meaningful progress under the current technical setup.
Speaking in an interview with Citi FM on Wednesday, September 10, the minister cautioned that Ghana risks missing out on major tournaments if standards are not raised.
“Very soon, AFCON will start in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No, we’ll be watching on TV. We have not even qualified for the World Cup yet. We still need a win and at least a draw to be sure no one can overtake us,” he stressed.
Mr. Adams added that while Otto Addo has admitted to mistakes and taken responsibility, his overall output is far from satisfactory.
“If I say I am impressed, then it means I don’t know my job. I am not impressed. There is still much room for improvement. Even the coach himself admits he has made mistakes. But for how long will he continue to take the blame for poor decisions?” he asked.
