CEO of Goldbod and National Democratic Congress (NDC) politician, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, has filed a defamation suit against media personality Afia Schwarzenegger over what he describes as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image.
The suit, filed on Wednesday, July 23, stems from claims made by Afia Schwarzenegger alleging that Mr. Gyamfi has multiple girlfriends at the University of Ghana and has purchased vehicles and property for them.
In his statement of claim, Mr. Gyamfi flatly denied all the accusations.
“I have no girlfriend(s) at the University of Ghana and have not at any time purchased vehicles for any so-called girlfriends,” he declared.
He also refuted allegations that he bought property in the United States for his wife or her supposed sister-in-law, emphasizing that his wife does not even have a sister named “Vida” as claimed by the defendant.
Mr. Gyamfi insists the allegations were not only baseless but were made either with full knowledge of their falsehood or with reckless disregard for the truth. He stated that the motive behind the claims was to damage his moral standing and reputation in both political and social circles.
According to him, the fallout has been overwhelming. He revealed that the statements have caused immense embarrassment and distress, triggering calls and inquiries from concerned friends, family, party members, and even officials at the Office of the President.
“These false claims have affected me deeply. I have had to answer to people I respect and work with. It has been damaging,” he said.
Mr. Gyamfi noted that beyond clearing his name, the lawsuit is also meant to set a precedent to discourage similar attacks on public personalities.
“I’m not just doing this for myself. This is to send a message that you cannot go about fabricating stories and expect no consequences,” he added.
The case is expected to open yet another chapter in the long-running tension between Afia Schwarzenegger and leading political figures in Ghana.
