Member of Parliament for Akwapim North, Sammi Awuku, has accused the John Mahama-led administration of engaging in selective justice and deliberately targeting opposition figures and their supporters.
Speaking at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” demonstration in Accra on September 23, Mr. Awuku said the government was using intimidation tactics to weaken the opposition.
“Today, injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. The selective application of the rule of law in our country is sickening,” he declared.
The Akwapim North MP cited instances where members of the ruling party were allegedly treated with leniency despite making inflammatory remarks, while opposition leaders were subjected to harsh punishments for comparatively minor comments.
“You will have a Vice Chairman of the ruling party making incendiary comments, threatening bodily harm and elimination of opposition figures, and he’s called over tea or coffee and granted bail. Yet, when a regional chairman of the opposition makes a statement the police find offensive, that person is thrown behind bars and given draconian bail conditions,” he lamented.

Mr. Awuku further commended young members of the NPP for standing up against what he described as harassment and intimidation. He stressed that the opposition would not allow its leaders to be silenced.
“I’m happy the NPP’s young folks have risen to the occasion and are clear in their minds that they will resist oppressors’ rule. They will speak against injustice, harassment, intimidation, and the deliberate gagging of opposition leaders. This, we will not allow,” he warned.
