Parliament of Ghana (SONA) – President John Dramani Mahama has outlined an ambitious roadmap for Ghana’s development in his 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA), pledging economic revitalization, job creation, and infrastructural expansion. Addressing Parliament, he emphasized his administration’s commitment to fostering national growth while ensuring social equity and stability.
Economic Revival and Job Creation
In a major policy declaration, President Mahama announced the establishment of the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment to tackle Ghana’s escalating unemployment crisis. He revealed that two million young people remain unemployed and underscored his administration’s determination to create sustainable opportunities through vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and public-private partnerships.
“We are taking bold steps to equip our youth with the skills needed for today’s economy,” he stated.

The President launched the ‘Nkukor Nkitikiti’ poultry project, which will benefit 55,000 households and reduce $3 million spent annually on poultry imports. He also announced plans to implement greenhouse projects to modernize Ghana’s agricultural sector, enhance food security, and promote export-driven farming.
“We must harness our agricultural potential to drive industrial growth,” Mahama asserted, promising increased investments in irrigation, mechanized farming, and agro-processing industries.
Energy and Infrastructure Development
With power stability remaining a priority, Mahama assured Ghanaians of ongoing energy sector reforms to ensure a consistent electricity supply for homes and businesses. He further pledged massive investments in roads, bridges, and public transportation, highlighting his government’s commitment to addressing infrastructural deficits.
“Our infrastructure agenda will leave no region behind,” he emphasized, detailing plans for major road upgrades and digital transformation initiatives.
Education and Healthcare Commitments
The President reaffirmed his government’s dedication to universal access to quality education, expanding technical and vocational programs, and improving teacher welfare. He also outlined strategies to enhance healthcare delivery, including new hospital projects and increased funding for medical facilities.
“We are committed to making Ghana a leader in education and healthcare excellence,” he declared.
Governance, Security, and Climate Action
Addressing governance issues, Mahama assured Parliament of his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption and reaffirmed his commitment to upholding democracy, human rights, and national security. He also emphasized Ghana’s active role in climate change resilience, advocating for sustainable environmental policies.
