NDC Cracks Down on Alleged Vote Buying at Ayawaso East Primaries

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come down hard on reports of widespread bribery and vote buying during the party’s parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East constituency, describing the alleged acts as a serious betrayal of its core values.

In a statement issued after the primaries, the party’s national executives said their attention had been drawn to “widespread incidents of inducement and vote buying allegedly perpetuated by some aspirants,” a development that has sparked outrage within the party’s leadership.

The NDC did not mince words in condemning the alleged conduct, stressing that such actions run counter to the principles the party stands for, particularly at a time it is pushing its much-touted reset agenda.

“The party vehemently condemns these actions in no uncertain terms as they represent an affront to the values and principles of the party and the reset agenda the party is championing,” the statement said.

Beyond condemnation, the party announced immediate steps to get to the bottom of the matter. According to the statement, a full-scale investigation has been launched, with a clear warning that anyone found culpable will face swift disciplinary action.

“The party is immediately instituting a full-scale investigation into this matter and will take swift action against any candidate found culpable,” the executives assured.

The NDC also used the opportunity to send a strong signal ahead of future internal elections. It cautioned that it would no longer tolerate acts of inducement and hinted at tougher consequences going forward.

“In the future, more drastic sanctions would be taken, including possibly cancelling elections, when such incidents come to the attention of the party,” the statement warned.

The development underscores the party’s attempt to tighten internal discipline and restore public confidence as it positions itself as a credible alternative in Ghana’s political landscape. For many party supporters, the coming days will be crucial in showing whether the NDC will match its strong words with decisive action.
