Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed deep frustration over what he describes as being sidelined by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the very party he helped build and once led to victory.
During a visit from flagbearer hopeful Bryan Acheampong, the former president did not hide his disappointment, revealing that he feels increasingly shut out of the party’s key decision-making processes.
“I don’t understand why my party, the NPP, has sidelined me,” Kufuor said, visibly emotional. “I led this party into government and served as president for two terms, but now, it appears the system sees no use for me.”
He revealed that he had been excluded from a recent National Council meeting, a significant gathering where major decisions regarding the party’s leadership and direction are made. For Kufuor, that exclusion isn’t just personal; it symbolizes a deeper issue within the NPP.
“To be sidelined at such a crucial time shows a worrying disregard for those who have sacrificed for this party. If founding members are being ignored, how can we expect unity moving forward?” he asked.
His remarks come at a time when the NPP is battling serious internal tensions, with several factions forming around competing presidential aspirants ahead of the 2028 elections. Party unity, transparency, and respect for veteran voices have become major concerns among grassroots members and political observers alike.
