Mahama to Host Africa Sovereignty Forum at Davos

President John Dramani Mahama is set to host a high-level Africa Sovereignty Forum at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, January 22, at 2:30 p.m. Central European Time, bringing together global leaders, policymakers and key stakeholders for a strategic dialogue on Africa’s future.

The forum, which forms part of the Accra Reset Initiative, will focus on Africa’s pursuit of economic independence, governance reform and sustainable development within an evolving global order. It is expected to provide a platform for frank discussions on how African countries can strengthen their sovereignty and reposition themselves within global decision-making structures.

President Mahama will be joined by former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, along with other prominent leaders and policy actors, to examine critical issues shaping the continent’s long-term development.

Held under the theme “Defining the Sovereign Future,” the dialogue aims to move beyond rhetoric and engage in practical, forward-looking conversations on leadership, sovereignty and Africa’s role in global affairs. Organisers say the forum is designed to encourage honest exchanges on how African nations can reclaim greater control over their economic and political destinies.

The event will also reinforce the Accra Reset vision, which emphasises African-led solutions to long-standing structural challenges confronting the continent. According to officials familiar with the programme, the Davos engagement will explore how African countries can assert greater agency while navigating geopolitical competition, financial constraints and uneven development outcomes.

Ultimately, the forum seeks to contribute to a renewed continental agenda one that promotes self-determination, resilience and sustainable growth for Africa in an increasingly complex global environment.
