Mahama Swears In Five New Ambassadors, Tasks Them to Drive Ghana’s Economic Diplomacy

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in five newly appointed ambassadors, charging them to immediately prioritize economic diplomacy and aggressively promote Ghana’s interests on the global stage.

The ambassadors will represent Ghana in Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Mali, Cuba, Situ, and Malta.

At the swearing-in ceremony held on February 9, President Mahama emphasized that Ghana’s foreign missions must go beyond ceremonial duties and deliver tangible economic benefits for the country. He urged the envoys to actively attract foreign investment, expand non-traditional exports, promote tourism, and facilitate innovation and technology transfer.

“Ghana’s diplomacy will be judged not by ceremony alone, but by results,” the President stated. “Your work must translate into jobs, growth, opportunities, security, and measurable benefits for our people.”

President Mahama stressed that every partnership forged and every investor attracted must serve a broader national purpose. He noted that the government has embarked on a national reset agenda rooted in integrity, efficiency, accountability, and results-driven governance.

“As heads of mission, you are required to reflect this national reset by moving from passive representation to purposeful engagement, from routine reporting to proactive problem-solving, and from mere presence to real impact,” he added.

The President further directed the ambassadors to ensure that their mission plans are firmly aligned with Ghana’s development priorities, underscoring the critical role diplomatic missions play in strengthening bilateral relations and supporting national development.
