Mahama: Public Office is About Service, Not Personal Gain

President John Dramani Mahama has made a passionate call for accountability and selfless leadership in Ghana, reminding public officials that their positions are meant for service, not for personal benefit.

Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service at the State House in Accra on July 1, President Mahama emphasized that those entrusted with leadership must always put the nation first.

“We must hold those in authority accountable. Public office is a responsibility, not a privilege for personal gain,” he stated firmly.

His comments come at a time when many Ghanaians are demanding more transparency, fairness, and integrity from their leaders. For President Mahama, true leadership is about serving the people and upholding trust, not chasing power or wealth.

The National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, which brought together religious leaders, political figures, civil society organizations, and ordinary citizens from across the country, was more than just a religious event. It was a moment of national reflection, where Ghanaians gathered to pray, give thanks, and renew their collective hope for a better future.

President Mahama described the service as a “sacred moment” that encourages unity across religious and political lines. He urged Ghanaians to stay alert, remain actively involved in national affairs, and continue to demand accountability from those who lead.

“As citizens, we must never give up on our responsibility to hold our leaders to high standards. Together, we can build a Ghana that is fair, just, and prosperous for everyone,” he added.

The service ended on a note of hope and renewal, with a united call for moral leadership and national progress.
