Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese has announced that he will refund the $170 raised through a GoFundMe campaign he set up in support of fellow artisteKwesi Arthur, following public backlash and the latter’s decision to distance himself from the initiative.
The crowdfunding effort was launched weeks after Kwesi Arthur alleged on social media that his former management company, Ground up chale , was demanding $150,000 from him for the use of his own images. The claim sparked widespread debate within the music industry and among fans.
Kwaw Kese explained that his actions were driven purely by goodwill. According to him, he believed that leveraging their combined influence and loyal fan base could help raise funds to support Kwesi Arthur in resolving the financial dispute.
However, shortly after the fundraiser went live, Kwesi Arthur publicly dissociated himself from it, stating that he had no prior knowledge of the campaign and urging the public to disregard it.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Kwaw Kese stressed that he had no ulterior motive and did not intend to personally benefit from the funds raised. He maintained that every dollar contributed was meant solely to assist Kwesi Arthur.
In light of the concerns raised and Kwesi Arthur’s response, Kwaw Kese has decided to refund all donations to contributors, bringing the brief but controversial fundraising effort to an end.
