Government Declares Friday, July 4, 2025, a Public Holiday to Mark Republic Day.

The Government of Ghana has announced that Friday, July 4, 2025, has been officially declared a public holiday to honour the nation’s Republic Day celebration. This was made known in a press release signed by Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak,Minister for Interior.

While Republic Day falls on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the President of the Republic, through an Executive Instrument (E.I.) issued by Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2021 (Act 601), has designated Friday as an additional public holiday.

The decision to shift the public observance to Friday is aimed at giving Ghanaians ample time to commemorate the occasion and participate in activities that reflect on the country’s republican status and its democratic journey.

Republic Day is a historic event that celebrates Ghana’s transition into a republic in 1960, after gaining independence in 1957. The day symbolizes the country’s full attainment of self-governance and the power of Ghanaians to lead their affairs.

The press release further called on all Ghanaians to observe the day responsibly and to use the occasion to promote unity, peace, and patriotism.

This additional holiday is expected to provide citizens with an extended opportunity to engage in national reflection and community-based activities in honour of Ghana’s political progress.
