A brace from Gabriel Jesus ensured Arsenal maintained their flawless UEFA Champions League record, while Kylian Mbappé continued his impressive scoring run in a commanding Real Madrid victory as Matchday 7 kicked off on Tuesday night.
The evening’s action also produced memorable wins for Sporting CP and Norwegian champions Bodø/Glimt, who stunned former winners Manchester City.
Bodø/Glimt recorded their first victory of the league phase with a stunning 3–1 triumph over 2023 Champions League winners Manchester City at Aspmyra Stadion.
City began brightly, with Rayan Cherki forcing an early save from the home goalkeeper, but it was the hosts who struck first. Kasper Høgh capitalised on two perfectly weighted deliveries from Ole Didrik Blomberg, scoring twice within three minutes midway through the first half to put Bodø/Glimt firmly in control.
The Norwegian side extended their lead shortly after the restart when Jens Petter Hauge unleashed a superb strike into the top corner, sending the home crowd into raptures.
Cherki pulled one back for City on the hour with a low finish, briefly raising hopes of a comeback. However, those hopes were quickly dashed when captain Rodri was sent off soon after, leaving the visitors short-handed. Despite late pressure, City were unable to find another goal, and Bodø/Glimt nearly restored their three-goal advantage when Hauge struck the crossbar late on.
The result marked a famous European night for Bodø/Glimt and underlined the unpredictability of this season’s Champions League.
