The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed claims circulating in sections of the media that it has approved a plan for staff of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to travel abroad to register and renew driving licences for Ghanaians in the diaspora.
In a press release dated February 26, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to a viral news headline suggesting that approval had been granted for DVLA officials to undertake such services in countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.
The Ministry, however, categorically denied the claim.
It clarified that it has neither issued any directive to Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any institution or entity for such an arrangement.
According to the statement, the Ministry is unaware of any new government policy authorising DVLA officials to provide driver licensing services outside Ghana. It further stressed that there is no record at the Ministry indicating the existence of such a policy directive.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there has been no formal engagement, no new policy brought to our attention, and no financial commitment as irrefutable evidence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs establishes,” the statement emphasised.
The Ministry assured the general public of its continued commitment to transparency, accountability and financial prudence in the delivery of public services.
