First Lady Lordina Mahama Calls for United Action to Safeguard Children’s Future at UN Prayer Service.

Ghana’s First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, has made a heartfelt appeal for unity and collective action to build a peaceful world where children can thrive with hope and opportunities.

She made the call on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the annual prayer service for peace and hope for children, held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The event, organized by World Vision International in partnership with the World Council of Churches, Caritas Internationalis, the Episcopal Church, and other faith-based organizations, brought together global leaders and advocates at a time when children worldwide face rising uncertainty, shrinking funding for humanitarian causes, and diminishing trust in institutions.

Speaking passionately, Mrs. Mahama highlighted the enormous challenges confronting children, particularly the vulnerable, but expressed strong optimism that through prayer, solidarity, and decisive leadership, the tide can be turned.

“We gather here from different nations and cultures, but our shared faith unites us. Through prayer and decisive leadership, we can create a world where every child is protected and empowered to achieve their full potential,” she affirmed.

Her remarks touched deeply on the plight of children in armed conflict and humanitarian crises across Africa, where many are stripped of their childhoods, forced into violence, and scarred by trauma.

“These are precious lives destroyed by circumstances beyond their control. When nations fail to focus on policies that safeguard the home, strengthen communities, and nurture the youth, it is our children who will suffer the most. They are the ones who lose parents, siblings, homes, dreams, and carry emotional scars that can last forever,” she stressed.

Drawing from her own experience, the First Lady shared how her Lordina Foundation, a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting orphans and underprivileged children in Ghana, has been instrumental in changing lives. She urged more philanthropic efforts across the world to complement policy interventions in securing a brighter future for children.

The gathering was attended by dignitaries, including the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, and other officials of the Lordina Foundation, alongside international faith and humanitarian leaders.

Mrs. Mahama’s message was clear: while the world faces rapid and unsettling changes, collective commitment, compassion, and faith remain powerful tools to secure a future where no child is left behind.
