COVID-19 Surge Forces Ban on Social Gatherings at University of Ghana

The University of Ghana has placed a temporary ban on all social gatherings on campus following a fresh rise in COVID-19 cases.

The announcement, made by the Office of Student Affairs, takes immediate effect and affects all student groups and activities. This includes programs organized by the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), as well as departmental and school associations.

In the official statement, Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, explained, “Due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases on the University of Ghana campus, it has become necessary to suspend all social gatherings with immediate effect.”

The suspension specifically applies to all association week celebrations and other social events. Professor Kyerematen stressed that the move is essential to protect the university community. “These measures have become necessary to safeguard the health and well-being of the University community,” she added.

The university has called for full cooperation from students, assuring them that further updates will be provided as the situation is monitored.

Students are encouraged to remain cautious and follow all health guidelines to help prevent further spread of the virus.
