Black Stars Edge Mali to Boost 2026 World Cup Qualification Hopes

The Black Stars are back on track in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign after grinding out a narrow 1–0 win over Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8, 2025.

Coming into the game under pressure following last week’s frustrating draw with Chad, Otto Addo’s men showed grit and determination to deliver in front of their home fans. The solitary goal was enough to secure all three points and restore belief in Ghana’s quest for another World Cup appearance.

The victory keeps Ghana firmly in control of Group I. After eight matches, the Black Stars sit at the summit with 19 points. Madagascar trail closely with 16 points, Comoros follow with 15, while Mali drop to fourth with 12.

With just two fixtures left against the Central African Republic (CAR) and Comoros in October the equation is simple: Ghana need just one more win to book their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
