Bawumia Urges NPP to Focus on Ideas, Not Insults, Ahead of Presidential Primary.

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has appealed to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to maintain civility and unity as the party prepares for its presidential primary in January 2026.

Speaking on Wednesday, August 13, after over 490 constituency youth organisers  including their deputies presented his nomination forms, Dr. Bawumia called on aspirants and supporters to steer clear of personal attacks.

“I want this flagbearership election to be conducted with decorum,” he stressed. “We’re not in a campaign of insults, and we should not be. It should be about ideas  the kind of ideas that will capture the imagination of Ghanaians. What are we bringing to the table? How will we solve the problems Ghanaians face? That is what our campaign should focus on.”

He warned that negative campaigning would only weaken the party and give ammunition to its rivals. “When we bring down other people, we bring down the party,” he said. “Our opponents will use our own words against us.”

Dr. Bawumia assured that he would not resort to attacking fellow aspirants, stressing the importance of preserving party unity for the 2028 general election.

“When this election is over, we still have to face the general election. If we divide ourselves now, it will be difficult to come together later. Let us start with unity and end with unity that is the surest way to secure victory in 2028.”
