ADB Rolls Out 24-Hour Banking Service at Tema Port to Boost Trade Efficiency.

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC has officially launched a 24-hour banking service at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in Tema, marking a major step in support of the government’s newly introduced 24-hour port operations policy.

This new banking service, which took effect on July 1, 2025, is designed to provide round-the-clock access for port users, enabling them to make payments for GPHA handling charges at any time day or night. The move aims to ease the financial processes for key players in the shipping and logistics industry, including importers, exporters, freight forwarders, and customs agents who often operate outside regular business hours.

Speaking on the initiative, ADB Managing Director Edward Ato Sarpong explained that the bank’s decision aligns with the government’s broader 24-hour economy agenda, which focuses on job creation, boosting exports, and improving national productivity through value addition.

“The 24-hour economy is not just about working round the clock,” Mr. Sarpong noted. “It’s about creating added value and decent jobs that contribute to higher productivity. Our banking service is designed to support this by ensuring seamless financial transactions at the port.”

Mr. Sarpong emphasized that the introduction of the service will make it easier for logistics and shipping professionals to meet critical deadlines and manage complex schedules without being constrained by banking hours.

“With our 24-hour banking service at Tema Port, stakeholders now have uninterrupted access to financial services needed to keep their operations running efficiently,” he said.

He added that the bank is actively working to replicate this 24-hour model at other key payment collection points nationwide, as part of ADB’s contribution to national economic growth.

This latest offering reflects ADB’s renewed commitment to innovation and customer-centric banking under its new tagline, “Beyond Banking…” a promise to deliver more than just traditional financial services.

Mr. Sarpong encouraged all port users and the wider business community to take full advantage of the new service, saying it will not only make transactions easier but also help businesses operate more smoothly in an increasingly competitive global trade environment.

With this move, ADB positions itself as a key enabler of Ghana’s evolving economic landscape, ensuring financial services keep pace with the demands of a dynamic, 24-hour economy.
