Accra Police Caution Revelers: No Live Ammunition at Ga State Drumming Ban Lifting

As the people of Ga State prepare to mark the official lifting of the ban on drumming and noise making today, Thursday, June 12, 2025, the Accra Regional Police Command has issued a firm reminder to all participants: live ammunition has no place in the celebrations.

The annual ceremony, which will take place at Gbese Blohum and Abola, is a significant cultural event that symbolizes the end of a period of silence and the return to normal communal life. A central part of the celebrations includes the firing of musketry, a long-standing tradition observed with great pride.

However, recent years have seen a disturbing shift, with some sections of the youth reportedly using live ammunition instead of the traditional gunpowder or blank cartridges. This dangerous practice has raised serious safety concerns for both participants and bystanders.

In response, the Police, working closely with the Gbese Mantse and other traditional leaders, have issued a stern warning. “We will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found using live ammunition during the celebrations,” the Command emphasized.

The Police further assured the public that they are collaborating with traditional authorities and event organizers to ensure a smooth, peaceful, and safe event for all. They also encouraged attendees to fully comply with all safety guidelines and report any suspicious activities immediately by calling the Police emergency lines 18555 or 112.

The Accra Regional Police Command concluded by extending warm wishes to the people of Ga State as they observe this important cultural tradition, while reminding everyone to celebrate responsibly.
