The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) says 1,000 young people, particularly women, have secured employment at North Shore Apparel Ghana Limited following a partnership aimed at developing skills in industrial garment production.
YEA Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale disclosed this at the agency’s Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 21, noting that the initiative was designed to equip young people with the skills needed to fill vacancies at the garment manufacturing company.
Located in Savelugu in the Northern Region, North Shore Apparel Ghana Limited operates in the garment manufacturing industry, offering employment opportunities through industrial production.
According to Mr Basintale, the programme has achieved its annual target, with all 1,000 beneficiaries securing jobs as of September 30.
“As of September 30, the agency had recorded 1,000 beneficiaries against an annual target of 1,000, representing 100 per cent achievement. All 1,000 beneficiaries have since been fully employed, with plans to deploy another 1,000 in the coming year,” he said.
He explained that the partnership was designed to align skills training with the specific needs of industry, enabling young people to gain relevant experience while helping businesses recruit trained workers.
The programme forms part of efforts to address unemployment by linking vocational training directly to available job opportunities.
Meanwhile, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy Initiative, Goosie Tanoh, disclosed on Friday, August 28, that North Shore Apparel is expected to create about 10,000 direct jobs when the factory reaches full production capacity.
