Ghana’s Black Stars will renew their long-standing rivalry with Morocco when the two sides meet in an international friendly on October 4, 2026, in Tangier.
The match will be played at the Grand Stadium of Tangier, with the Moroccan Football Federation including the fixture in the Atlas Lions’ programme for the October international window.
The encounter will give Ghana another opportunity to measure itself against a Morocco side that has established itself among Africa’s leading national teams in recent years.
The two countries have a rivalry stretching back more than six decades. Their first meeting came during the qualifiers for the 1962 FIFA World Cup, with Ghana holding Morocco to a goalless draw in Accra before the North Africans won the return leg 1-0 in Casablanca.
Since then, the two nations have crossed paths in World Cup qualifiers, Africa Cup of Nations competitions and several international friendlies.
Morocco have won the two most recent senior meetings between the sides. The Atlas Lions recorded a 1-0 victory in a friendly in Rabat in June 2021 before securing another 1-0 win over Ghana in the group stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The October friendly will come after Ghana’s opening matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The Black Stars are scheduled to face Ivory Coast in Bouake on September 24 before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
The meeting with Morocco will provide another high-profile test for Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz as he begins his second spell in charge following his role in guiding Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
A kick-off time and squad details for the October 4 encounter are yet to be announced.
