UCC Level 200 Student Killed in Tragic Motorcycle Accident on Campus

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has announced the tragic death of one of its students following a road traffic accident on campus.

In a statement issued on March 6, the university confirmed that the deceased, Kweku Mensah, was a Level 200 Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) student.

According to the statement, the accident occurred on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m. along the stretch between the Amissah-Arthur Language Centre and the Sandwich Lecture Theatre (SWLT).

Preliminary information indicates that Mensah was riding on a motorcycle to retrieve his identification card from Oguaa Hall ahead of a scheduled examination when the incident happened. The motorcycle he was on reportedly collided with an Ayalolo bus, resulting in severe injuries.

He was immediately rushed to the UCC Hospital for emergency treatment. However, despite efforts by medical personnel to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead.

The university stated that the matter has been reported to the UCC Police as well as the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the UCC morgue as authorities continue with the necessary procedures. His family has also been informed about the tragic incident.

The University of Cape Coast extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and urged members of the university community to remain calm as investigations into the accident continue. It added that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
