The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and other security agencies to intensify measures to ensure safety during the 2024 general elections.
At a press conference on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, issued a strong warning, holding the IGP and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) accountable for any loss of life during the election period.
“The NDC and by extension the people of Ghana will hold the IGP and the Chief of Defence Staff responsible for the loss of a single life in the 2024 general elections. Elections are about counting heads, not cutting heads. No person must lose their life at the altar of elections,” Gyamfi emphasized.
Allegations Against NPP
The NDC alleged that certain members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are planning to manipulate the elections. Gyamfi expressed confidence in the NDC’s ability to secure a decisive victory, provided the elections are free, fair, and peaceful.
“We have no doubt that Ghanaians will choose an honest leader who upholds the virtue of truth over one who is completely allergic to truth,” he stated, suggesting that the NDC’s message resonates strongly with voters.
Call for Peaceful Elections
The party stressed the need for a peaceful electoral process, urging security agencies to remain vigilant and impartial to ensure the safety of all participants and citizens during the elections.
The NDC’s statements reflect growing political tensions as Ghana approaches the 2024 elections, highlighting the importance of credible security measures to uphold democratic integrity and public trust.
