Senegal and host nation Morocco emerged as the biggest winners off the pitch at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, after dominating the official Team of the Tournament unveiled by the CAF Technical Study Group (TSG).
Following Senegal’s triumphant run to their second continental title and Morocco’s impressive journey to the final, the two nations each had four players named in the prestigious Best XI, reflecting their consistency and influence throughout the competition.
The CAF TSG selected the Team of the Tournament after a rigorous technical review process that combined both on-site and remote evaluations. The assessment was supported by advanced performance data, multi-angle video analysis and live match feeds, ensuring an objective and comprehensive appraisal of individual performances across the tournament.
Morocco’s strong showing in the Best XI is headlined by goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who produced a standout campaign between the posts, conceding just two goals in seven matches. He is joined by defenders Achraf Hakimi and Noussair Mazraoui, whose dynamism and tactical discipline were central to Morocco’s defensive solidity, as well as attacking midfielder Brahim Díaz, who finished the tournament as the leading goalscorer.
Champions Senegal also feature prominently, with defender Moussa Niakhaté rewarded for his commanding presence at the back. In midfield, Pape Gueye and Idrissa Gueye earned their places after consistently dictating the tempo of matches and providing defensive balance. Up front, talismanic forward Sadio Mané capped an outstanding tournament by being named Player of the Tournament, following a series of decisive and match-winning performances.
The final Best XI serves as a reflection of the high technical standards displayed at AFCON 2025 and underlines the dominance of Senegal and Morocco, whose players left a lasting mark on one of the most competitive editions of the tournament in recent years.
