Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician and entrepreneur, Rex Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Rex Omar, has been appointed as a Presidential Staffer for Black Star Experience.
Confirming his appointment in an interview with myjoyonline.com on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Rex Omar expressed his commitment to the initiative, which serves as the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagship Culture, Arts, and Tourism brand.
About the Black Star Experience
The Black Star Experience aims to redefine and affirm Ghana’s cultural identity while attracting investments, generating employment, and boosting the tourism sector. It will feature year-round celebrations spanning various entertainment, artistic, and educational disciplines, solidifying Ghana’s place as a cultural and creative hub.
Rex Omar’s Extensive Industry Expertise
Beyond his success in music, Rex Omar is a seasoned management professional specializing in intellectual property rights, making him one of Ghana’s leading voices on the subject.
His industry leadership includes serving as Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) since 2017, securing re-election for a second term. He previously held key positions such as:
- Vice President of the Copyright Society of Ghana
- Member of the 2013 National Intellectual Property and Policy Strategy Committee
- Former Head of Business and Finance at the Musicians Union of Ghana
Additionally, he is a member of SUISSA, the Copyright Society of Switzerland, and holds a publishing contract with EMI Germany.
