Rev. Opoku Onyinah Urges Ghanaians to Trust Electoral Processes and Reject Political Manipulation

Rev. Opoku Onyinah, Member of the Board of Trustees for the National Cathedral and immediate past Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, has called on Ghanaians to place confidence in the country’s electoral system. He emphasised that Ghana’s electoral processes are robust, credible, and not designed to favour any particular candidate.

In a message shared on social media, Rev. Onyinah advised the youth to remain vigilant and avoid being swayed by politicians seeking to incite unrest for personal gain.

“God is deeply interested in Ghanaians and our participation in the democratic process. As we prepare to vote on December 7, it is important that you cast your ballot for the individual you believe can lead the nation with integrity and good governance. God will not directly choose a leader for us; He has chosen to work through humanity. Therefore, you must prayerfully and thoughtfully use your reasoning to make a wise choice,” he wrote.

Rev. Onyinah noted the importance of trusting the electoral process and accepting its outcomes, stating that Ghana’s electoral systems are sound and reliable. He urged citizens to reject any attempts by selfish individuals or groups to incite violence or chaos.

“It is crucial to plan for success and also prepare to accept defeat. If the election outcome were predetermined, there would be no need for voting. While everyone desires victory, we must remain committed to peace and democracy by being willing to accept the results. Leadership is not achieved through violence, abuse, or manipulation,” he emphasized.

Drawing from biblical examples, Rev. Onyinah highlighted how God used leaders like Cyrus and Darius to fulfill His purposes, expressing faith that the leader chosen collectively by Ghanaians can serve as an instrument for national progress.

He concluded with a call for unity and peace, urging politicians to adopt the mindset of statesmanship, prioritizing service to the nation over personal ambition.

“May the Lord guide us in this election so that, in the end, we can all thank Him for leading us to a peaceful and fruitful outcome,” he added.
