President John Mahama has appointed Mr. Aaron Kanor as Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), with immediate effect.
Mr. Kanor is a seasoned Customs officer with more than 30 years of experience in revenue mobilisation, border protection and trade facilitation within the GRA. His appointment follows a long career in public service marked by professionalism, integrity and operational leadership.
Prior to this appointment, he served as Officer-in-Charge of Port Operations, where he supervised key customs activities, including enforcement of regulations, revenue assurance and the facilitation of legitimate trade. His tenure contributed to strengthened border security systems and improved compliance across Ghana’s international trade corridors.
Throughout his career, Mr. Kanor has held several senior leadership roles across the country, including Sector Commander at Kotoka International Airport and Wa Collections, as well as Chief Revenue Officer in multiple operational jurisdictions. In these positions, he led intelligence-driven operations that disrupted smuggling networks, uncovered invoice under-declaration practices and dismantled criminal rings involved in vehicle identity manipulation. These interventions supported stronger revenue performance and reinforced national security.
He has also contributed to customs modernisation efforts, playing a role in the rollout of electronic valuation systems and other strategic initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and reducing cargo clearance times. His work has supported efforts to align Ghana’s customs administration with global best practices while facilitating smoother trade flows.
His appointment is expected to further strengthen customs administration, deepen compliance and support economic growth through a more efficient and secure trade environment.
The Board, Management and staff have congratulated Mr. Kanor on his appointment and expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commissioner of Customs, Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, for his leadership and service to the Division.
