The Premier League title race is intensifying after leaders Medeama SC saw their once-comfortable lead shrink to just three points following a goalless draw against FC Samartex 1996 on Sunday.
Medeama, still recovering from a 1-1 home draw with Aduana FC where captain Mubarik Yussif missed a stoppage-time penalty, showed resilience at the Nsenkyire Arena but could not find the breakthrough in an entertaining 0-0 contest. With 11 matches remaining, the Mauve and Yellow remain top on 45 points, but their cushion has significantly narrowed.
Reigning champions Bibiani Gold Stars FC took advantage, securing a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Heart of Lions. Seedorf Asante had given the hosts the lead before Samuel Attah Kumi equalised. Godfred struck with virtually the last kick of the game to seal a potentially decisive victory, moving the Miners to 42 points. They could overtake Medeama next weekend depending on results.
Asante Kotoko also boosted their top-four ambitions with a 2-0 win over Young Apostles. Early goals from Johnson Oppong Owusu and captain Samba O’Neil ended their three-match winless run and kept them within reach of the summit. Aduana FC were held 0-0 by Hohoe United, extending their unbeaten streak but missing a chance to climb higher, while Hohoe earned a valuable point in their fight against relegation.
Dreams FC salvaged a late draw against Nations FC, with Seidu Surah cancelling out Suweidu Sulemana’s opener in a closely contested match at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.
In the relegation battle, Basake Holy Stars strengthened their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over Swedru All Blacks, thanks to Jacob Boazee’s decisive goal. Hearts of Oak, meanwhile, failed to build on their recent Super Clash triumph, settling for a goalless draw against Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana, leaving them five points adrift of the leaders.
Karela United continued their resurgence with a convincing win over Eleven Wonders, marking their third straight victory and moving up to seventh place, while Wonders remain anchored at the bottom of the table.
