Parliament Resumes Sitting Today

Parliament is set to resume sittings on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as it officially opens the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, following the Christmas recess that ended the First Session in December 2025.

Ahead of the resumption, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business has been holding a series of meetings with Ministers of State to assess progress made during the previous session and to harmonise legislative priorities for the new parliamentary term.

As business resumes, several bills are expected to be laid before the House, alongside ministerial statements on key national issues and questions directed at Ministers. Lawmakers are anticipated to deliberate on a broad range of policy, governance, and development matters during the session.

Among the major issues slated for consideration is the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, which continues to present serious environmental and socio-economic challenges across the country.

Parliament is also expected to take up discussions on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, widely referred to as the Anti-LGBT Bill. The proposed legislation has generated significant public interest and controversy and is expected to spark intense debate among Members of Parliament, reflecting differing views both within the House and across Ghanaian society.

Overall, the Second Session is expected to play a critical role in shaping key legislative outcomes and setting the tone for governance priorities in the year ahead.
