NDC Congratulates NPP on Peaceful Presidential Primaries, Commends Police Service

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the successful organization of its presidential candidate primaries, describing the process as peaceful and well-managed.

In a statement issued in Accra on February 1, 2026, the NDC acknowledged that the violence-free exercise led to the election of former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the December 2028 general elections.

“The National Democratic Congress hereby offers its congratulations to the opposition New Patriotic Party for the successful organization of a violence-free presidential candidate primaries,” the statement said, noting that the process reflected Ghana’s growing democratic maturity.

The party also praised the Ghana Police Service for its professionalism and efficiency throughout the primaries. According to the NDC, the police played a critical role in ensuring peace and order across the country during the exercise.

“We take this opportunity to also commend the Ghana Police Service for the remarkable and efficient manner that they secured the entire process,” the statement added.

The NDC further expressed its readiness to work with the NPP and other political parties to deepen Ghana’s democracy, emphasizing the importance of collaboration beyond partisan lines.

“We welcome the collaboration and participation of the NPP and all other political parties in our collective national quest to strengthen and deepen our democracy,” the party stated.

Additionally, the NDC took note of the concession speeches delivered by candidates who were unsuccessful in the primaries, urging them to remain committed to unity within their party.

“We have also taken note of the reconciliatory concession statements from the other unsuccessful candidates, and hope that they would walk their talk,” the statement said.

The statement was signed by the National Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah.
