Operatives of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) have arrested a senior manager of a manufacturing company for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the country.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been officially disclosed, is said to have concealed the illicit substance in a consignment of packaged gari (dried cassava flakes) intended for shipment abroad.
He was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) during what officials described as an intelligence-led operation. Sources at the airport told Graphic Online that the suspect is believed to be the head of production at the manufacturing firm.
According to authorities, investigations are currently underway to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the attempted shipment. Officials are also working to determine whether other individuals may be connected to what is suspected to be a wider smuggling network.
NACOC has not yet provided further details but assured that updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
