Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus and its flagbearer-elect, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, following the party’s presidential primary victory.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin made the remarks when he paid a visit to the residence of Dr. Bawumia to officially congratulate him after his emergence as the party’s flag bearer.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Minority Leader stressed that the parliamentary caucus is fully committed to supporting the flag bearer and ensuring that his vision is effectively championed in Parliament.
“I’m with the flag bearer of our party, and our commitment as a caucus is to him,” he said.
He explained that Parliament will play a key role in advancing the party’s agenda, noting that the caucus will be responsible for advocating for the flag bearer’s vision on the floor of the House.
“It is Parliament that is going to carry his vision and advocate for him on the House floor,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
Reiterating his position as leader of the Minority caucus, he emphasised that his loyalty remains firmly grounded in the party’s cause and leadership.
“As a leader of the caucus, my loyalty to the party’s cause and our flag bearer is on solid ground, and that is the discussion we’ve had,” he added.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin also called for unity within the party, stressing that cohesion would be critical as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
“He called for unity, and that is what we are going to rally and deliver in 2028,” he concluded.
