MTN FA Cup Semi-Finals Set After Thrilling Penalty Shootout Victories

The quarter-final stage of the 2026 MTN FA Cup produced a weekend of intense drama, late heroics, and nerve-wracking penalty shootouts, as Dreams FC and Nations FC booked their places in the semi-finals alongside Aduana FC. With several traditional powerhouses already eliminated, this year’s competition is now wide open for a new champion. ⚽️

Dreams FC secured their passage after edging Heart of Lions 4–3 on penalties following a pulsating 1–1 draw that stretched through extra time. The Kpando-based side took the lead in the 34th minute when Seedorf Asante unleashed a superb strike to put Heart of Lions in front. The match appeared to be slipping away from Dreams FC until Suraj Seidu delivered a dramatic equalizer at the stroke of full time, finishing off a cleverly rehearsed free-kick routine that stunned their opponents.

Neither side could find a winner in extra time, forcing the contest into a tense shootout where Dreams FC held their composure to seal victory and continue their cup run. Despite ending on the losing side, Heart of Lions captain Ebenezer Abban earned Man of the Match honors for an outstanding performance.

Dreams FC will now meet the winner of the remaining quarter-final clash between Medeama SC and Division One side Attram De Visser in what promises to be a fiercely contested semi-final.

In another tightly fought encounter, Nations FC overcame Berekum Chelsea 4–3 on penalties after 120 minutes of goalless football. Both teams displayed disciplined defensive organization, canceling each other out throughout regulation and extra time.

The shootout ultimately decided the tie, with Nations FC holding their nerve while Berekum Chelsea faltered from the spot. Samuel Tenedu, Oko Grippman, and Benjamin Abaidoo all missed their kicks, handing the Abrankese-based club a historic place in the last four.

Interestingly, Berekum Chelsea’s Samuel Tenedu was still named Man of the Match for his overall performance, while Nations FC youngster Frederick Nzoley picked up the Most Promising Player award for his impressive display.

Nations FC will now face Aduana FC in the other semi-final, setting up another high-stakes showdown as both clubs chase a place in the final.

The semi-final fixtures are tentatively scheduled for April 17–20, with the grand final expected to take place on the weekend of May 30–31, 2026. As the competition enters its decisive phase, fans can expect more drama, tension, and unforgettable moments on the road to crowning the next MTN FA Cup champion.
