Legal Dispute Erupts Over SIC Insurance Leadership Change

Ex-MD Hollistar Duah-Yentumi files a lawsuit against SIC Insurance Company and its new interim MD, Mr. James Agyenim-Boateng.

Former Managing Director Hollistar Duah-Yentumi has initiated legal proceedings against SIC Insurance Company Limited and its newly designated Acting Managing Director, Mr. James Agyenim-Boateng. This lawsuit follows her refusal to vacate the MD position after President John Dramani Mahama appointed Mr. Agyenim-Boateng on January 27th.

In her suit, filed on February 4th, Ms. Duah-Yentumi argues that her employment contract guaranteed a four-year term ending on January 1, 2028, and that any alteration to her tenure must be approved either by the company’s Board of Directors or by all shareholders at an Annual General Meeting. She maintains that the terms of her appointment are strictly bound by the contractual agreement with SIC Insurance.

Ms. Duah-Yentumi further contends that her dismissal is unlawful because it violates the contract, specifically Clause 7, which reserves the power to terminate her employment solely for the Board of Directors or the shareholders acting collectively. She asserts that the appointment of Mr. Agyenim-Boateng is both procedurally deficient and illegal.

As part of her legal remedies, she seeks a High Court declaration that her termination is null and void, an order to reverse the appointment of Mr. Agyenim-Boateng, and her reinstatement as the rightful Managing Director. Additionally, her legal team is asking for a court mandate requiring the defendants to compensate her with the full salary and benefits due for the remaining duration of her contract.
