Tensions have flared within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kumawu Constituency as a group of aggrieved youth stormed and vandalized the party’s constituency office over discontent surrounding the nomination of a District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Kumawu.
The irate group destroyed computers, chairs, tables, and vital party documents, causing significant damage to the facility. The protest is rooted in internal party disagreements, with the youth accusing leadership of failing to consult grassroots members in the nomination process.

Constituency Secretary Reacts
Suale Orlanto Yakubu, the constituency secretary, confirmed the attack and condemned the actions of the youth. He emphasized the need for calm and internal dialogue, warning that such behavior tarnishes the image of the party and undermines its democratic processes.
Yakubu further appealed to party leadership at the regional and national levels to intervene and resolve the dispute before it escalates further.
Similar Incidents in Talensi
This unrest mirrors similar scenes in the Talensi Constituency of the Upper East Region, where disgruntled foot soldiers reportedly opposed the President’s nominee, John Millim Naabwomya, as DCE. According to JoyNews’ Albert Sore, the protests in Talensi were also driven by frustration over lack of transparency and consultation.
These developments point to a growing trend of grassroots dissatisfaction within the party regarding appointment processes, raising broader concerns about party unity and governance at the local level ahead of the 2028 elections.
